Victory in the fight "One versus One" for the 20-year-olds

Last weekend (22th - 23th January) the small town of Goes in the southwest of the Netherlands and the Motor- sport Club Zeeland were the hosts for the 18th edition of the Supercross Goes. Riders from seven nations were invited to the Zeelandhallen, to fight in the various categories for points and placings. Lining up was the 20-year-old rider Jack Brunell from Old Windsor (Berkshire), who was contesting in the class Inters SX2 for the Rabbit Racing Team.

Friday night consisted of a "one versus one" contest for the SX2 class, in which the riders raced in pairs around the track for 2 laps. The winner would be determined in a knout-out procedure.. After his first round victory against Frenchman Adrien Trochen, Jack then defeated Ludovic Macler, another Frenchman in the quarter finals. Jack then faced the Belgian Jurgen Wybo and sucessfully beat him to face the Dutchman Mike Kras in the final:
"On Friday, the races were one versus one races which were 1 lap long. They were very enjoyable to do and I managed to win all my races! In the final I was up against Kras and we had a good battle. I managed to get the holeshot and stay in the lead to win the race."

With the victory from the first evening in his pocket, Jack was confident for the races on Saturday. The day started with two practice sessions:
"The free practice session was good although the track was very rutted. I managed to get a good lap in and I finished the session with the fastest laptime. In the timed session I was again in the last group when the track was most difficult. However, I managed to get the fastest lap by 0.006 of a second!"

Jack mastered the two qualifying races in the evening with flying colors, finishing both races as the winner ahead of the German Dennis Ullrich. In the final of the class SX2, Jack had an average start and was amongst the top 5 riders for the first few laps. However, a fall on lap 4 ended any chances for a podium finish:
"The first heat went perfect. I managed to get the holeshot and I pulled a good lead and finished the race with the win. In the second heat I was second off the start. But I managed to pass Ullrich and win the heat. I therefore had the first pick at the start. I didn't get the best start in the final and was about 4th. I was riding fast but I made a huge mistake in the whoops and crashed hard. I winded myself and took a long time to get going again. I managed to the finish the race in 12th and I had the fastest lap of the race."

Although the result in the final did not meet his expectations, Jack was satisfied with his results of the weekend in Goes:
"Overall im quite satisfied with my result. The Friday one versus one races were really good fun and it was good to win. I was really good for the Saturday race and I know I was fast. It's a shame that the crash ruined my race result but that's supercross. I must say a huge thank you to the Rabbit Racing Team for lending me a bike for the races."
With the Supercross event at Herning (Denmark) on next weekend (29th – 30th January) Jack will face his last challenge in this SX season.
