After a successful Supercross season, Jack took a well earned break at the beginning of February. In early March, he flew out to America for a few weeks to do some riding and to get prepared for the 2010 motocross season.
"Yes, I went out to California to stay with a friend of mine, Sam. Also, a good friend of mine, Chris, was working there so it was good to go and see him. We trained at the local tracks and we went to Glen Helen, Pala etc.. I made a few friends out there which was cool. I really enjoyed my time out there and I felt really good. After the supercross I took a break so America gave me time to get back up to speed."
Feeling determined and motivated after his trip, Jack started his preparation for the 2010 ADAC Youngster Cup, where his aim was to win the championship. Drehna, the first round of the 2010 season is a very deep sand track so Jack decided to go and train in Holland. Unfortunately the weather in Holland was very bad and Jack had a little crash which resulted in him suffering ligament damage to his wrist.
"I was training in Holland ready for the first ADAC round which was a sand track. The weather was quite bad and on the first lap of practise I hit a soft patch and went over the handlebars. It was only a small crash but I landed heavily on my wrist. I went to the hospital and found out that I had damaged the ligaments in my wrist. I was gutted as I knew I wouldn’t be able to ride the first ADAC round. The injury has healed fine after some rest and physio."
After a few weeks rest, Jack was back riding and feeling confident for the rest of the season. However, more bad luck would strike when he was informed that he would not be supported by the Sturm team. Being so late in the season, Jack was forced to miss the second round of the championship.
"I am still a bit confused and angry at the situation. I was told 2 weeks before the second ADAC round that they wasn’t supporting me. I have managed to get sponsorship from No Fear which is really good and I really appreciate their help. I want to compete at the ADAC masters as I feel I have a good chance to win races and get on the podium."
Whilst in America, Jack made friends with a young lad from Latvia and they have remained in contact. Valdis asked Jack if he would like to come and ride the Latvian Championship round and so Jack flew out to meet him.
"Racing out there is very different. The tracks were very fast and everyone was on 450’s so it was difficult being on a 250F. They also just barge you on the corners. The weather was not good and the rain was very hard. I managed to post an average lap time in the timed practice.
The races were crazy! They are only 5 laps long and there were people crashing everywhere. They just hit you off the track. The rain was also getting heavier which made it very difficult.
Overall, it was a fun weekend and something good to experience. It was very different racing out there but I enjoyed it which is all that matters."
On a more positive note, Jack will be competing in a few rounds of the Red Bull Pro National series. He will ride for the LPE Kawasaki team at a very special event in conjuction with the Moto GP race at Silverstone.
"I am really excited. When I found out that it was going to be at the same time as the Moto GP I really wanted to go. Its going to be really cool to watch them guys. I hope that the track is good for the Red Bull, I’m sure it will be full of jumps which should be good.
Through No Fear, I made contact with LPE Kawasaki. Unfortunately one of their riders is injured and so I am going to take his place for this round. I am really looking forward to the event and I am really grateful to Steve at LPE Kawasaki for giving me the chance to ride for his team. I think I will also compete in the next round at Whitby and then we will have to see if I compete in any other rounds."
