Jack defended his 2nd place in the championship

On the 18th & 19th December, Munich's Olympic Hall was the venue for the second edition of the ADAC Supercross, the third and penultimate round of this year's ADAC SX Cup. Riding for the Golden Tyre Germany Ihle Racing Team was Jack Brunell from Old Windsor, Berkshire, who was aiming to defend the "Prince of Munich" title he won last year.

Feeling confident, the 21-year-old adapted well to the track in the first practice session on Saturday. In doing so he was able to show his excellent speed with the fastest lap time in his class: "The first practise went really well. I found a very good lap and was half a second faster than everyone which was good!" Unfortunately, Jack could not repeat this performance in the time practice because of a fall: "I was the first one on the track and on the first lap I went to jump a double and there was a hay bale in the way. I fell off the bike in the air and landed hard! I wasn’t happy but managed to get the third fastest lap even though my bike was bent."

Jack proceeded directly into the evening races and the Kawasaki pilot finished the first moto in second place after a good start: "I was second off the start but missed a jump and went down to third. I lost some time trying to repass the Frenchman Berthome. When I was passed I tried my hardest to catch Greedy but the races were shorter and I ran out of time, finishing less than a second behind." The second moto did run smoothly for Jack, in which he saw the chequered flag in fourth position: "I had a bad start in the second race. I managed to pass a few riders but I slipped off and went back a few places. I managed to pass a few more and I finished 4th which wasn't too bad."

Highly motivated, Jack started the timed practice session on Sunday and was able to once again qualify with a good lap time directly to the SX2-finals in the afternoon: “The session went well and I had the fastest lap time until the last lap when Greedy went a tenth of a second faster!“ Unfortunately, Jack couldn't transform the good starting position into a good moto finish. After an eventful race he finished eleventh: "I had a really good start but my bike hit neutral and so I was last! I tried my best to come through and I managed to get to 6th place. Olsen then crashed into me in the whoops and I came off the track and when I tried to get back on the track I hit a haybale and had a stupid crash! I was angry as I knew the title would be really hard to win." Jack used his anger to dominate the last moto with a clear start-finish victory, which gave him his second overall for the day: "I got the holeshot and just rode easy! I was much faster so I had a big lead and just cruised to the win. I wish the other races had gone like this one!"

After the two days, Jack finished the fight for the title "Prince of Munich 2010" behind his countryman Ashley Greedy in second place and kept his second place in the ADAC SX2 Cup overall standings: "Overall I am quite happy because I finished 2nd overall, just missing the title by 4 points! I am also 2nd in the Championship but Greedy has an 88 point lead which I don't think I can beat. My aim for Dortmund is to be crowned 'Prince of Dortmund'."
